LG To Release A Flexible "Elctronic Paper"

LG has started mass production of flexible displays for “book readers”, says blog Engadget.

The screens will form an image on the technology of electronic ink (e-ink).

Unlike most modern screen e-ink, the product will not be used LG glass and plastic substrate. It looks like a “protective film for cell phone screens.”

Plastic screens are flexible, thinner and more durable than glass.
Size of LG Screen will be 6 inches, and resolution – 1024 x 768 pixels
It will be one-third thinner than glass screens e-ink (its thickness is 0.7 mm),
and half the weight (14 grams to weigh).

LG will supply the screens to electronics manufacturers in China. Shipment of finished “book readers” with flexible screens in Europe will start in early April.

LG is not the first company to offer a flexible “electronic paper”.
Screens with similar properties developed on Plastic Logic.
In early 2011 it became known that the corporation “RUSNANO” which opens the Plastic Logic plant for the production of such displays in Zelenograd
The plant is scheduled for late 2013.

Flexible displays on plastic substrates used in the “school-tablet” that chapter “RUSNANO” Anatoly Chubais offered to replace the “paper” textbooks.

We are excited to see what LG will bring in the next few months on the market
And whether it can compete with a tablet.
